Menopause can be quite an unsettling time but it doesn’t have to be difficult. The first defence against the ‘unpleasant’ changes and feelings of menopause is understanding why they are happening. In my blog called’ Menopause-the hormonal tsunami ‘these changes are discussed.
Taking measure to nourish yourself mentally as well as physically will bring positive results. This change normally happens around the time of other great changes in life. The children are leaving or have left home and the empty nest situation occurs. Perhaps parents are elderly and need care or have passed on. Accepting that you won’t have that longed for family can hit like a brick wall. Whatever the challenge it is vitally important to ensure you build or maintain hobbies and social circles.
Often women feel alone and the thought of sharing your feelings with someone scares you. It is perfectly normal to have fluctuating feelings, foggy brain and changes around your feelings of sexuality. If you were to have a frank discussion with your confidants who are at the same stage of life you would soon realise you are not mad-just normal. Having someone to talk to is so important to keep a balanced view and sustain your good mental health.
It is said that the increase in divorce at this stage in life can be as result of a misunderstood menopause and/or dealing with the natural changing roles of life. Communication is the key. If you have days when you can’t express those thoughts and feelings then make a point of calmly explaining when you can. Be open to listening and all will be well. Also be open to counselling if that will help.
Time for fun and laughter is necessary –see the funny side relax and allow you to be happy.
