Its established that we all need good sleep for our health whether young, teenager, middle aged, older, sick or well.
Sleep can make things better or help prevent so many illnesses. Poor quality sleep or insomnia appear to be increasing in all age groups and if you can make some simple changes your sleep will be protected.
- Lets go straight to the issue-sleep is one heck of an important factor for your health.
What can help?;
• A regular routine of waking and going to bed
• Good sleep hygiene-A bedtime routine which includes having no screen time for an hour before bedtime
• Exercise-it helps to tire you and work off those stress hormones built up during the day
• A diet high in magnesium or a great supplement including magnesium-I use Guna Basic in the evening and sometimes Guna Sleep
• Use herbal sleep teas-available in health food shops and supermarkets
• Having your last meal at least two hours before bedtime
• Using aromatherapy oils for inhalation prior to bedtime-Lavender Essential Oil is popular but there are others of you don’t like it.
Therapies help such as Reflexology. Ear seeds, Aromatherapy, Massage, to mention but a few, choose a therapy that fits your lifestyle.
• After a through personalised consultation Live Well Clinic is happy to help you decide what fits with your lifestyle and can help YOU.
Here are a few alarming quotes from very recently published papers and the links at the bottom so that you can read more if you wish.
- ‘We all know sleep deprivation is a major problem as repeated surveys show that we’re not getting enough.
The most recent carried out by Aviva last year revealed that almost half of UK residents manage on only six hours or less of sleep each night.
So worrying are the effects of chronic sleep deprivation – increased fatigue and irritability decreased concentration and memory function, even decreased immune function – that a leaked public health green paper suggests the government is planning to issue national guidelines giving recommended number of hours of sleep for individuals in different age groups.’
- The brain waves generated during deep sleep appear to trigger a cleaning system in the brain that protects it against Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.’
- A law recently signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom that mandates later start times for most students—no earlier than 8 a.m. in middle school and 8:30 a.m. in high school—is the first statewide response in the United States to overwhelming evidence that chronic lack of sleep impairs teens’
- ‘FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – As if you didn’t already have enough to worry about to keep you up at night, a new study indicates that poor sleep can negatively affect your gut microbiome, which can, in turn, lead to additional health issues’
