Not a subject we Like to discuss but it is so important to be truly aware of your bowel habits, frequency and consistency.
Do you have a bowel motion daily?
How many times a day?
What is the consistency?
Do you feel bloated?
Are you windy?
Do you feel overfull or tired and sleepy after eating?
Do certain foods make your digestive system feel out of balance?
These are questions that I ask my clients because they are important and ones you should ask yourself now and then.
Your digestive system is where your outside world meets your inside world. The food and drink we consume should build us up and be digested without discomfort. When digestive trouble is present there are many ways and often simple ways to help.
How you eat is important- chewing your food is important, but how many of us are now time pressured and food is gobbled in quickly. Sit down and away from your workstation and eat intentionally and with awareness-this will help digestion and can prevent overeating.
Digestive trouble could be a sign that a food or an ingredient is causing your problems-have a sensitivity test, withdraw the offender for 6 weeks, do a gut healing protocol and then reintroduce the food-it usually works. I have developed a simple gut healing protocol that my clients have found success with.
Diarrhoea and constipation can be helped naturally.
For diarrhoea I employ the food supplement Colostrononi.
If the diarrhoea is acute then try the BRAT diet, (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) to help ease symptoms. Ensure you stay well hydrated.
I also employ special Pre and Probiotics for those suffer long term and whose bowel habits have them planning toilet stops before leaving home.
Constipation- Colostrononi here as well-this food supplement has scientifically been shown to lower gut inflammation in all bowel conditions.
Vitamin C and Magnesium supplements can bring relief naturally as well as Senna.
Pre and Probiotics especially for constipation really help.
Indigestion and post meal drowsiness-these can be a sign of a lack of good digestive enzymes and you can supplement these whilst you work on improving gut health. Not all digestive enzyme supplements are the same and I prefer to prescribe and use plant based Enzyformula.
Lifestyle is important;
Exercise helps all muscles including the bowels.
Relaxation-having enough rest periods for your body and mind
Diet-eating mostly unprocessed food, cooking from scratch
Bowel Cancer Screening Test- sent out to us older people-always do this-it can be lifesaving
Any symptoms you are worried about or that happen suddenly should always be medically checked out.
