Hi there,
Let me introduce myself and tell you about the therapy approaches that I offer at Live Well Clinic.
My name is Majella Farrell and I have been an independent therapist for over 27 years.
My experience in healthcare is a little longer than this 38 years (Oh where do the years go!)
I trained as a psychiatric nurse and gained experience in this field and in special needs as a staff nurse.
I became interested in the complementary field of medicine 28 years ago. I had always felt attracted to other ways of encouraging healing that worked with the innate ability of healing each of us have.
I grew up hearing stories of my Granny Spencer who grew her own herbs and made poultices and remedies for her neighbours when they couldn’t afford a doctor for common ailments. Perhaps that had a considerable influence. She was a very ingenious lady who had grown up on a farm and then came to live in the town where she soon made use if every bit of her back garden with her hens and herbs and vegetables. She reared a big family on her own after her beloved husband died of cancer. Times were hard, and she used all her farming/industrial skills to keep the family going.
My first foray into the field of complementary therapy was to train in reflexology. This came about when I was nursing with another staff nurse who was training in reflexology in cork at the time, she gave me a treatment as part of her practise, I was hooked. By chance I bought a magazine that week that had a write up about reflexology and the contact number of the British Association. I made the call and so the journey began in a reflexology school in Belfast. Quite a few thought I was a little crazy ‘imagine-rubbing people’s feet to make them better!!!’
I taught a taster course in the local technical college within a year of qualifying. I opened a clinic at home. Starting off was difficult as there were times when I had four clients booked, a babysitter in place and only one client would turn up. I can’t say I didn’t feel like giving up, but I was determined to plough on. I did have the backing of a very understanding husband and family. Sometimes as any therapist will tell you we still have days where people just don’t turn up but hey ho the joys of self-employment.
As I read more I decided to train in Aromatherapy and massage. I have never stopped learning from then- constantly reading, retraining, updating and still enthusiastic about integrated approaches to health.
I believe in orthodox medicine but also in complementary modalities. I firmly believe that both should work together with a suitable choice being made a teach stage of a person’s health journey.
I now work with individual clients and organisations using all my skills both nursing and complementary therapies and I love it.
I have had the privilege to meet some wonderful characters along the way who influenced and challenged my thinking. One who stands out is the late Professor Emeritus Michael Kirkman. He taught me on my naturopathic three-year study. We kept in close contact until his untimely death. He introduced me to the most caring and considerate company with a huge ethical conscience Bio Pathica and its directors Mr Roger and Mrs Juliet Wilson. Professor Kirkman suggested a remedy for my son at the time and asked Roger to send it, it worked and so my thirst to learn about modern homeopathy known as homotoxicology and PRM (Physiological Regulating Medicine) began.
Roger and Juliet have supported and facilitated worldwide training for me, in turn I take it to you. They have two wonderful companies that have a great ethical approach to healthcare practitioners and making very high standard training available to us.
So, what I am saying is that when you come to me for any of the wide range of treatments I offer I am bringing to bear all the trainings that I have into your appointment. I will direct the treatment specifically for your needs ensuring best outcomes for you. My ethics are to be holistic in my approach, always do the best I can for you and know my limits, in other words if I can’t help you I will direct you to someone who can.
